Dear Editor
Frank Myers’ letter in defence of John Gasston’s election to Ross Town Council completely misses the point.
Why did the local Conservative Association endorse a candidate who, immediately prior to the election, had declared his imminent intention to spend several months undertaking good works in Africa?
And why, around the time of the one Town Council meeting he attended, did John still give a solemn undertaking to fulfil the duties of a Councillor when he knew he could not?
Is an absent Tory councillor considered better than an active one of any other political persuasion?
This incompetence will now cost Ross taxpayers several thousand pounds in staging a Town Council election. I trust the electorate will bear that in mind on polling day.
Will Frecknall,
Ross-on-Wye
