Members of Ross & Monmouth Sea Cadet Unit played a small part in the Military Parade and Presentation of the Letters of Patent to the town of Royal Wootton Bassett on Sunday, October 16th.

The town was honoured for the way it has honoured the soldiers killed on active service in Iraq and Afghanistan. For four years the people of Wootton Bassett honoured British servicemen never failing to pay their respects to the repatriated dead, conveyed in hearses along their high street with painful regularity. Now, they in turn have been honoured and their town is now Royal Wootton Bassett.

Staff and Cadets from Ross & Monmouth Sea Cadet Unit travelled up to Wootton Bassett to assist the local Unit with the role of lining the streets and providing a level of security. It was a very long day as the Cadets had to be in position at 11.30am and were not relieved until 3.30pm.

HRH Princess Royal unveiled the Letters of Patent followed by a march past of contingents from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army and Royal Air Force all led by the band of HM Royal Marines. There was also a fly past of a Globemaster, C130 Hercules and a Vulcan Bomber. All of which was watched by some 20000 people including the Prime Minister, David Cameron and the new Secretary of State for Defence.
