Neighbourly.com, the social network for social good, has launched a local funding initiative in partnership with Heineken to support communities local to the company’s sites.

Neighbourly connects UK-based community projects and charities that need support, with companies and individuals that want to make a difference. Heineken is using Neighbourly to find and select causes it can support that are local to its main breweries and offices in the UK. In total over £100,000 is initially available nationally, with £30,000 earmarked for the Herefordshire area.

Registration and participation is free to all causes and charities which wish to be considered for grants – but projects will only be eligible for consideration if they register on Neighbourly.com by April 29th.

Once local causes and charities are registered, Heineken colleagues will use Neighbourly to select, champion and back the causes they think will have the biggest positive impact for their community. The funds will be shared among multiple causes and for varying amounts. Additionally, if a particular cause needs volunteer support as well as funding, that too may be available from individual volunteers using Neighbourly.

Claire Matthews, Corporate Responsibility Manager, Heineken UK said: “Our aim is to make a difference at a local level, but first we need to know how and where we can help. We’re asking the causes and charities in the Herefordshire area seeking help to register with Neighbourly now, so our colleagues can understand what’s needed locally and back the causes they most care about.”

Scott Ward, Community Relations Manager, Neighbourly, is in charge of helping local causes get on board. He said: “We are looking for causes and charities of all sizes doing great work in the local community. Not just registered charities but also church groups, community groups and even volunteers that may support a single project. We know that volunteers and charities don’t have lots of free time, and some may be new to using the web. The Neighbourly team is here to explain the scheme and help get them registered.”
