When Margaret Ashby of Lea Villa Park in Lea just outside Ross ran out of coal she was facing a few very cold and bleak days in her mobile home because she could not get a delivery due to the icy conditions.

Margaret called Age Concern Ross-on-Wye to ask for help and they referred her to the Can Do Crew to see if they could help.

Age Concern staff and the Can Do Crew, a not-for-profit business run by the charity EnviroAbility, have been working together for many years. Can Do Crew workers, David Andrews, Herefordshire Young Volunteer of the Year 2009, and James Murphy, immediately came to the rescue. They collected the coal from a local supplier and delivered it to Margaret the same day.

Dennis Humble of EnviroAbility said:?"We are really proud of our colleagues who were willing to undertake work that is above and beyond their remit." On their return both David and James commented that Margaret was so nice and the warmth of her thanks made them feel really good. In the office the pair are referred to as 'The Can Do Rescue Squad!"

Members of the Can Do Crew are still available to do jobs around the house and garden. If you want more information please go to http://www.candocrew.org.uk">www.candocrew.org.uk or call and leave a message for Mike the volunteer who discusses jobs with people on 01989 763388.
