Ladies from Ross-on-Wye’s Probus ’93 Club recently met at the Chase Hotel to celebrate their 25th Anniversary. The Chairman, Marion Contreras, welcomed the 43 members present, including Honorary Member Pat Webber and her daughter. She also thanked all members for bringing in photos of themselves from 1993. The photos caused great amusement and illustrated how fashions, hairstyles etc have changed over the years.

Three Past-Chairmen Lesley Gare, Jackie Alcock and Pat Hughes provided anecdotes from past years and from the history of Probus. Friendship Secretary Soosie Pinnell read out some humorous quotations.

A delicious cream tea with prosecco followed. After a toast to absent friends, a beautiful celebration cake, made by Jan Morgan, was cut by one of the long-term members, Hilda Fisher. The raffle prize was won by Pat Hughes.

Probus ’93 Ladies are entertained monthly by various speakers whose subjects have ranged from Polar Bears to Honey Bees, The History of Afternoon Tea to RNLI etc. This is followed by a delicious lunch and more socialising.

During the past 25 years since the Club formed there have been many changes in the world – and in the members! But their ethos is still old fashioned friendship and conviviality. Members are looking forward to the next 25 years!
