Members of the Ross Penyard Singers recently presented a cheque of £700 to Nigel Warwick from the ‘Severn Freewheelers’ charity, which is a voluntary emergency service often referred to as the Blood Bikers.
Nigel was delighted to receive such a generous amount and explained that ‘Severn Freewheelers’ use specially-adapted motorcycles to provide a free, out of hours courier service for the NHS in Herefordshire and surrounding counties, and often deliver to Ross Community Hospital. Volunteer motorcyclists deliver blood, human tissue and other medical items as and when needed in an emergency.
The charity also operates a car that takes blood between Worcester hospital and Strensham, for use on the Air Ambulance.
The service operates from 7pm to 7am Monday to Friday and a continuous service throughout every weekend and Bank Holidays.
