Ross finally ended a poor run of results on Saturday securing a bonus point win away to Spartans and in the process closing the gap on their league rivals.

From the start both teams looked to play high tempo rugby looking to test defences to breaking point. Spartans were the most accurate in the first quarter offloading out of the tackle and, if it wasn't for some strong tackling in the midfield by Gareth Holdsworth and Casey Morgan, Spartans could have easily opened up a lead.

Ross however weathered the storm and were the first to open their account. A strong scrum from the Ross eight 40 yards out saw scrum half Craig Powell in midfield centre. Gareth Holdsworth drew the defence and relayed a perfect pass to centre partner, Casey Morgan, who scythed through the defence before cutting inside the fullback to score. He converted his own try and Ross were 7-0 ahead.

Spartans hit back almost immediately, securing possession in the Ross half. Initially some strong tackling from Gavin Oates and Mike Davies slowed their progress but Ross infringed at the ruck. Spartans took a quick penalty and their number eight crashed over to score. They converted and the score was 7-7.

Ross quickly established territory from the kick off. The front row of Luke Ward, Wayne Williams and Matt Redman were causing Spartans huge problems at scrum time and as a result of this pressure Ross were able to manufacture another try. Some strong running by Adam Clements and Jake Christopher set up quick ball. Scrum half Craig Powell moved the ball right and Chay Brine delivered another sublime pass to Casey Morgan, who scythed through the defensive line to score under the posts. He converted and Ross went into half time 14-7 ahead.

Playing downhill in the second half, Spartans started brightly and looked the most likely to score first. Once again great defence from Luke Ward and Gavin Oates delivered turnover ball. Craig Powell moved the ball to Gareth Holdsworth who put though a perfect kick for Chay Brine to collect. He then chipped the ball over the fullback and collected his own kick and outsprinted the cover defence to score a great individual try. Casey Morgan converted and Ross went 21-7 ahead.

Ross were now comfortable, their defence was keeping Spartans at bay. It took a penalty to break the stranglehold. Spartans were on the attack when the referee lifted his arm indicating a penalty try, stating Ross were back chatting. This score was converted and Ross entered the last quarter 21-14 ahead.

Ross continued to attack. Craig Smith cut inside the defence but was tackled 20 yards out. A quick ruck ball saw captain Gavin Oates deliver a well timed pass to prop Luke Ward, who smashed through two tacklers before delivering a great turn of pace to score under the posts. Casey again converted and Ross cruised through the last ten minutes to register a bonus point 28-14 victory.

The Hagesud Bosse Man of the match was Casey Morgan for his 18 point contribution. On Saturday December 17th Ross has two sides at home, both games kicking off at 2.30pm against Ashley Down Old Boys.
