Sherry Miller, a Charolais cross heifer named after the Merry Millers fundraising group, reigns at Monmouthshire Christmas Fatstock market as Ian and Eira Pugh of Three Ashes brought home the winning first prized heifer and the Championship for the third successive year.

The outstanding beast weighed in at 610 kgs and sold for £2,300 (377ppkg), the purchaser being Willis Butchers of Cwmbran.

The heifer had been purchased in October 2018 as the champion beast at Monmouthshire weaned calf sale at Raglan and was bred by the late Rob ‘Spudo’ Watkins.

The Pugh family also took second prize in the steer class with the animal weighing in at 585kg and realising 280ppkg and sold to M/S’s Weeks Wholesale Meat Company.

This follows on from their recent success at Ross-on-Wye Christmas market where they had first in the over 650kg class and first in the class for farmers working less than 100 acres.
