Pupils at Walford Primary School enjoyed a lunchtime with some local visitors on Tuesday, March 5th. They enjoyed homemade Shepherd’s pie, fish pie, and sweet treats.
In conjuction with Walford Primary School, the lunch was organised by the Walford Community Scheme. They said: “We are helping local people in need with the small things that make a big difference.”
Members who are helped by the volunteers of the scheme enjoy a lunch, once a month, at the school. BBC Hereford & Worcester also attended which will help raise awareness about the Community Scheme.
Councillor Paul Newman OBE attended, as well as local businessman, parish councillor and chair of the Herefordshire Business Board, Frank Myers MBE.
Councillor Newman said: “It is true that volunteering can be a rewarding expereince, but the revelation I’ve found in volunteering for the Walford Community Support Scheme is the friendship I’ve made.
“I have met four senior gentlemen, all living on their own, with an average age over 85, and among other things, we have had a trip out every fortnight, and we invariably end up having a chat over a pie and a pint.
“We’ve called ourselves the Walford Old Boys; we are good mates now, and we’d never have made those friendships without being part of the Walford Community Scheme.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
