A COMMUNITY improvement project aimed at enhancing a popular walking route in Ross-on-Wye has been successfully completed - thanks to the efforts of local charity EnviroAbility and the Can Do Crew, working in partnership with Ross-on-Wye Town Council.
The project, located behind the town’s skate park, involved extending and improving an existing set of steps along a public footpath frequently used by local walkers.
In total, the team constructed an additional 32 steps and handrail to make the route safer and more accessible for residents and visitors alike.
EnviroAbility, which regularly works with local councils across the Ross area to support footpath and parish maintenance, was invited by the town council to assess the site and deliver improvements. The work represents one of the crew's largest projects to date.
But despite facing several challenges typical of outdoor construction work, the team successfully completed the project through collaboration, problem-solving and determination.
The work also provided an opportunity for team members to develop new skills and gain valuable experience.
Those involved say the project proved particularly rewarding as it encouraged the team to step outside their normal comfort zones and work closely together to deliver a lasting benefit for the community.
Early feedback from local walkers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many already enjoying the improved access along the route, shortly after this set they also completed the steps from Wilton Road down to the river.
EnviroAbility has thanked its team members for their dedication and teamwork throughout the project, as well as Ross Town Council for the opportunity to work together on an initiative that will benefit the wider community for years to come.
