THE wife of a Ross-on-Wye who died in January, just six weeks after being diagnosed with a second brain tumour, has paid tribute to all those who helped her and her family and donated to a fundraiser to help pay for his funeral.
Amy Rogers said that family was devastated after her husband Tim lost his courageous battle with brain cancer.
Amy said: “As I'm sure most people will know, my family's hearts were broken when my husband, their Daddy, Tim Rogers died.
“To say I've been a mess since would be a huge understatement. I want, on behalf of myself and my children, to say a humongous thank you to our wonderful town.
“We have felt so much love and kindness in the last few weeks, and for that we are truly grateful. There are honestly too many people to list, it's been overwhelming in such a nice way. Thoughtfulness at every corner.”
Amy singled out the ‘kind souls’ at Costa Coffee who didn't blink an eye when she walked in and just start blubbing, as she used the cafe as a safe space to try and gather her thoughts before going home.
Amy said that she was grateful to those who donated to the gofundme page, which ultimately went to pay towards Tim's funeral. She also acknowledges the support of individuals, and businesses that went out of their way to lighten that load emotionally and financially.
She also thanked those that have offered kind words to her and their children and to the local people that have worked hard to put on a bingo night - the aim of which was to make the children smile - and all the amazing local businesses that donated brilliant prizes.
“Those fantastic individuals have literally picked me up when I have crumbled, made sure we've eaten, got us back on the road and been there to let me cry all over them - the invaluable friendship will never be forgotten,” said Amy.
“Valhalla Ink, who held a charity day, asked if there were any charities I would like them to raise money for, and when I told them my suggestions, they went 100 per cent all in and selflessly raised almost £2,000.
Tim was originally from Bristol and moved to live with Amy in Hereford. The family of six moved to Ross just over 11-and-a-half-years ago.
Amy reflected that Tim always said that he was so glad that we moved here to Ross and was happy that this was where the children would grow up.
Amy concluded: “To all of those that have spoken so kindly and fondly of Tim. There are honestly so many thankyou messages that I need to share, I will never forget what you have all done for us.
“The thought of navigating this new chapter of our lives is daunting, but I am glad I am doing it here, in this community, surrounded by these people. Thank you Ross-on-Wye.”
The letter was signed by Amy on behalf of their children and their dog.
