The condition of the flats in Wye Street have once again angered residents of the town who are concerned that the state of the building is off-putting to tourists visiting the area as summer approaches.
Ross resident Caroline Hopkins posted a message on the Ross-on-Wye Notice Board asking Councillors if they were doing anything about them and urged them to take action as the elections are looming.
One Town Councillor, Daniel Lister, explained that these flats have been an ‘ongoing issue’. He said: “The council have asked several times for works to be carried out to tidy them, make them safe or a simply tidy up.”
In August 2018 Ross Town Council asked Herefordshire Council to issue a s215 notice under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to the owner of Flats 1-4 Wye Street.
Members of the Ross Town Council Planning Committee expressed concern over the dilapidated state of the buildings and disappointment that a planning application had not been forthcoming.
The s215 notice compels owners to take remedial action to improve the visual amenity of their buildings.
Work was carried out over the following few weeks but now the condition of the flats has once again become focus for concern and frustration.
Caroline Hopkins said: “I think as a town we have been patient enough, can the council chase this long overdue development along with Riverside and get something moving.” And she called for some action to be taken.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
