My name is Holly Robertson and I am a student at St Mary’s RC High School, I have joined the Ross Gazette for a few days to do work experience as I am interested in career in journalism in the future.
As a local resident of Ross I am aware of how Ross has some of the best transport links to the M4 and the M5. Ross also has great local produce including Weston’s Cider, Cobrey Farm and many more, and of course it is in a beautiful location with plenty of open space.
With all this in its favour I feel that Ross-on-Wye would be a perfect place to host Glastonbury in 2018 and every six years that the festival has a fallow year.
Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis had initially said that he was hoping to move the festival from Worthy Farm to nearby Longleat next year, but those plans subsequently fell through. Eavis is quoted as saying he was arranging to move the event closer to the Midlands, which could possible be near Ross-on-Wye, or somewhere in Herefordshire, during the fallow years, but that new site would only be used every six years.
Ross would also benefit from this opportunity, as it would boost the local economy and bring attention to the beautiful market town. Besides Ross has had many festivals and town carnivals in the past such as, beer festivals, Country Music Festivals, the InternationL Festival and many more.
I think a large music festival in this area would be possible to organise and could brings benefits to the area and be a perfect place for bands to perform and audiences to attend. I would like to know what Ross residents think about the possible siting of a large festival, like Glastonbury in the area. Please comment or email [email protected]
