As part of their campaign to stop residents leaving dogs in hot cars, Herefordshire Council are painting warnings beneath parking meters in their car parks.

During the week commencing Monday, July 29th, the warnings will be painted in car parks in and around Ross-on-Wye. There will be 11 pay and display machines across the town that have the painted warning.

Some were completed in Hereford around two months ago to see whether they were successful and to ensure they did not wear away quickly.

The rest of the Hereford public car parks, with the exception of Union Walk car park, were done on Thursday, July 25th.

A Herefordshire Council spokesperson said: “Many people believe it is okay to leave a dog if the windows are slightly open or they park in the shade, but this is still very dangerous. A car can quickly become extremely hot, even when it doesn’t feel that warm – if it’s 22 degrees Celsius outside, the inside of a car can reach up to 47 degrees Celsius within an hour.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
