The Herefordshire Short Mat Bowls Premier Team went out of the national competition on Sunday, January 31st, when it failed to get a result from a Preliminary match against Somerset, in the Consolation Competition.

A bad result against Worcester at the Gilt Edge Centre on Sunday, January 24th, had put the Premier Team out of the main part of the competition. They managed only three of the 16 games and went down 34 - 6 (209 to 144 shots).

In the Preliminary match for the Consolation Competition against Somerset they faired better but suffered in the end. Of the 16 games, they won six, lost seven and drew three, so the match was always there to be won. The final score before the bonus points, was 17 - 15 to Somerset, which they converted to 25 - 15 with all eight bonus points (188 to 149 shots).

The County 'A' Team will be playing in the quarter finals of the main competition against either Somerset or Staffordshire. These two teams will be playing a Preliminary match at Avon on January 30th. The quarter finals will take place on Sunday, February 14th, at Caroline Chisholm School in Northampton.
