On Friday, December 1st, a ‘Dine in the Dark’ experience and full waiting service is being offered by students at The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) in Hereford.
Christmas party season is fast approaching, and many people are looking for a meal with a difference. The ‘Dine in the Dark’ experience will definitely win you points for originality within your office, store, or among your friends.
Following a prosecco drinks reception, you will enjoy a fun, sensory journey, that will re-evaluate your perceptions of taste and smell.
The dishes are kept entirely secret by the chef, until placed in front of the diners, who all will wear blindfolds.
Not only is there a three-course dinner for just £30 per person, but a charity auction will also take place during the evening. All money raised from this helps RNC students to experience a trip abroad; for some people this provides them with their first opportunity to travel overseas.
Earlier in 2017, the previous ‘Dine in the Dark’ raised enough money to enable twelve students to visit Madrid, accompanied by College staff.
Spanish teacher Lisa Roberts said: “None of the students had been to Madrid before. Most of those who went were involved in the Dine in the Dark in January, and had taken weekly Spanish lessons with me before the trip. Dine in the Dark helped pay for the support that was necessary to give students this opportunity.”
Supported through both ‘Dine in the Dark’ and the Erasmus project, a group of students took a trip to Lyon, France. Danielle Brewster studies French at RNC and enjoyed the visit, especially being able to utilise her much-loved skills in Braille, taking part in lessons given in French.
“Dine in the Dark has helped me as a person so much, by providing me with the chance to go to Lyon on the French exchange. I was able to sell raffle tickets during Dine in the Dark, and I could really feel the generosity in the room,” said Danielle.
“As an A Level student of the French language, having the chance to go there, travel, and mix with native speakers was phenomenal. A way I know my language has improved was during the family meal I went to in France. One of the French teachers had to translate what I was saying into English as I was in such a flow of speaking French!”
To enable students to achieve their full potential and enjoy visiting other European cities, and for the chance to have a fun night in the build up to Christmas, book your tickets (or a whole table).
The event takes place on Friday, December 1st, with the drinks reception at 7pm and the sensory meal experience beginning at 7:30pm. RNC students will welcome you to the warm surrounds of Gardner Hall, Venns Lane in Hereford.
Book tickets via [email protected] or call Emily on 01432 376 370. Don’t delay, as this popular evening is filling up fast!
