Madam, I have sent the following email to Cllr John Jarvis regarding the withdrawal of the supply of 'free' bin bags:
You say it costs the council £3 pa per household to supply bin bags. These are bought in bulk by the council at a discount not available to members of the public. Whatever happens they will still need to be bought and paid for by the residents one way or another. Under your plan Herefordians will lose out by a matter of several unnecessary pounds a year, so why not continue to help them out by using the council's purchasing power? A £3 increase in the council tax would be better than a £6 bill for private purchase of bags.
Stand by for a rainbow of different and unsuitable bags being put out each week and an increase in the wrong things being put into the wheelie bins.
C S Thompson, Ross
