A lady who spent her whole life helping charities was even able to help the Ross Community First Responders at her funeral.

Doreen Lusty sponsored a young boy through Smile International, she was a volunteer with the British Heart Foundation and the YMCA. Her friend, Wendy Cole said there is probably not a charity in Ross which has not benefitted from one of Doreen’s dressed dolls.

Doreen was an avid knitter, not only dressing dolls but also knitting gifts to fill shoeboxes for children overseas.

Her husband was a member of the Stroke Club and she continued to volunteer for the Club and the Chestnuts, even after he died.

Wendy told the Ross Gazette: “Doreen was just a very good person. She did so much for others and was so kind, but she did things very quietly.”

The collection at the funeral raised £231 for the Commuity First Responders, which Wendy presented to them at a coffee morning at Reynolds Court, where Doreen lived for many years.

Wendy lives at Pontshill but said they became friends through a social club at Reynolds Court which was set up in 1980. She added: “I will miss her very much.”
