John Kyrle High School U13 and U15 boys' rugby teams secured double honours last week when they both won the very first Herefordshire Schools Rugby Leagues to culminate in play-off finals held at the county's premier club grounds.
Progressing to the final, John Kyrle U13 boys had finished top of the table, with a 100% record, during the league stages of the competition and had then beaten Luctonians, 24-19, in the semi-final. In the final match, held at Ledbury RFC, John Kyrle boys met Whitecross School and went on to win 24-12, with John Kyrle captain, Alex Jenkins awarded man of the match.
In the U15 final, the John Kyrle boys met Whitecross School again, after having dispatched Minster 52-0 in the semi-final. During the final match, both sides were evenly matched and enjoyed a fair share of possession, but with magnificent team effort and commanding performances from Dale Brooke, Harry Haile and Tom Biggs, John Kyrle secured another victory, 17-12.
The scale of the double victory is made even more impressive by the fact that the school beaten by John Kyrle in both finals is a Specialist Sports College. In a recent Ofsted report, John Kyrle was highlighted as an excellent provider of all-round education. This extends to sports activities and also underlines the schools commitment to the Healthy Schools initiative
