Ross Town Council has been asking for parking restrictions to be enforced near to the Market House for many years. There are signs on many of the buildings in Market Place, High Street and Broad Street but these are often ignored by motorists. About two years ago it was agreed that double yellow lines would be painted in areas where parking is not allowed. It was agreed that these should be narrower than normal.
The double yellow lines were painted on Sunday, Councillor Jane Roberts told the Ross Gazette:?"It is important to remember that yellow lines have not changed the parking regulations affecting the High Street - it has been no parking there for some time. But some drivers did not realise this because they did not notice the signs and assumed no lines meant no restrictions. This left visitors who parked there at risk of getting a ticket. It also meant that some people parked inappropriately, especially by the Market House, causing difficulties for pedestrians trying to cross the High Street.
The signs will now be able to be removed and Councillor Roberts said:?"We hope now the lines are down the signs can be removed and everyone will be clear about the parking restrictions in this narrow thoroughfare."
