The congregation at Christ Church celebrated Easter is style this year, starting on Palm Sunday with a service led by Rev Glyn Jenkins on the theme 'Facing the City'. During this service the good sized congregation received Palm Crosses as a physical reminder of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.
The Thursday evening activity was on a very different note as people gathered round a large table to take part in a very simple meal of Bread, Cheese and Grapes during which communion was celebrated by Rev Norman Whitaker. This focused the minds of people attending on the final supper Jesus had with his disciples. This took place before they went to the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus was betrayed to the officials of the High Priest and arrested.
Friday afternoon's gathering had yet a different tone as the congregation formed a semi-circle and were led in a meditation on the last hour of Christ's life before he died on the cross.
The Reverend Deborah Cornish had put together a series of readings and hymns which were very moving.
Easter Day saw another good sized congregation led in a service of rejoicing during which the empty, bare cross, which had been made out of the trunk of the Christmas Tree used to decorate the church, was covered in flowers to celebrate the fact that Jesus had risen from the dead and was alive.
Once again Communion was observed but this time in a very different atmosphere. After the service the decorated Cross was taken outside and left on display at the front of the building.
Each service had a different emphasis and was enjoyed not only by members of Christ Church but also visitors who were staying in the area.
The Church has some new initiatives in the pipeline and anyone interested knowing more about these should contact Philip Dazeley on 01989 567810.
