Over the Easter Break pupils from Weston under Penyard C of E Primary School were asked by the Headteacher to ‘grow a pound’ to raise money for the school.

There were many budding entrepreneurs who used their pound to purchase resources and then sell the products that they had made. Some pupils purchased ingredients to make cakes, whilst others bought tools or completed errands.

On return to school, the pupils organised a mini fete in the school playground where family and friends were invited to spend their money.

The pupils all demonstrated their creativity, and some of the stalls included wood carving, guessing competitions, hand-made products and lots and lots of delicious cakes.

Deputy Headteacher, Miss Tansley, announced the winner at Celebration Assembly last Friday in front of pupils, parents and carers. Year 4 pupil, Alfie Jones, was crowned the overall winner, raising an amazing £60.

Alfie used his pound to purchase a sponge and detergent to wash and wax cars for family, friends and neighbours. Miss Tansley told the Ross Gazette that that she is extremely proud of Alfie and all the other children, as they all showed a huge amount of entrepreneurial skill.

In total, over £500 was raised, which will all go towards improving the Forest School area which the school say the pupils love so much.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
