Students at John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye are discovering their offers from universities and higher apprenticeship providers following the latest round of applications.
Head of Sixth Form and Assistant Headteacher, Rob Wallace, said that 128 of the school’s 140 year 13 students had applied. Mr Wallace said he was delighted with the offers the students had been receiving from around the country. These include Oxford, Imperial College London, Bristol, Warwick and Exeter, as well as prestigious music and art colleges.
Students have applied for a range of courses including medicine, engineering, physics, geography, classics and computer science. Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Bethan Lambourne, said: “The focus for students now is to make sure they work hard, keep fit and healthy, and earn the grades they need to move on to these exciting opportunities.”
Headteacher, Nigel Griffiths, said he was very impressed to hear of the offers students are getting and with the wide ranging subject areas they have chosen to study. He said he was also very pleased with the high-quality apprenticeship programmes that some of his students will pursue. These include accountancy, engineering and computer science with GCHQ.
Mr Griffiths said, the support students receive from the Sixth Form team and their teachers has underpinned this success. He added: “The developments we have made in the sixth form continue to be one of the aspects of which I am most proud during my time as headteacher.
“We have grown the sixth form to over 300 students, including from own school and those from further afield. Our results continue to place us in the top 10% of schools and colleges nationally, especially for our top grades of A*-B, which are continually above 60%.
“This all confirms the Ofsted gradings of ‘Outstanding’ which we continually gain for our Sixth Form at John Kyrle.”
