Last week, the pupils from Kings Caple Primary Academy had a visit from Hilltop Birds of Prey. The children found out about the diet and habits of the birds and got to see them up close and stroke their feathers.

Head of School, Sarah Watkins, said: “This was such a valuable experience for the children and it was wonderful for the children to be able to get so close to them, under expert guidance.

“The pupils met an eagle, a little owl and a falcon. The little owl was definitely the loudest and the bravest. The pupils were fascinated to learn that the owl is able to hear a mouses’s heartbeat. We learned that the falcon is the fastest animal in the world.”

Pupil, Laura Dean, said: “I really loved all the birds but the owls were adorable. It was great being able to get so close.”

Pupil, Evie Sherlock, said: “I loved the owls and especially the huge eagle - he was a bit scared so he hung upside down!”

Every pupil had the chance to hold the birds, using a special glove, and to stroke them gently.

Mike Hill from Hilltop Birds of Prey commented: “A wonderful school with beautifully behaved children. Filled with very intelligent questions. It was a real pleasure to be invited and display the birds for such a lovely group.”
