Each year in Maths, Set One pupils at John Kyrle High School are invited to take part in the national ‘Maths Challenge’, a maths competition organised by the UK Maths Trust.
Years 7 and 8 sit the Junior Challenge, Years 9 and 10 the Intermediate Challenge and Years 12 and 13 the Senior Challenge.
John Kyrle students have always enjoyed great success in these challenges, where the top 6% nationally are awarded a gold certificate, the next 13% silver and the following 21% bronze. Of the 200,000 students across the UK that sit the challenges, the top 5% are invited to try the worldwide kangaroo round.
The sixth formers at John Kyrle High School out-performed the national average achieving one Kangaroo, two Golds, seven Silvers and eleven Bronze, from the 29 applicants.
In the Intermediate and Junior challenge, John Kyrle students achieved in line with the national average with a total of six Kangaroos, 12 Golds, 25 Silvers and 55 Bronze from 258 applicants.
