From dressing up as scientists to conducting experiments on light and flight, pupils in all stages at Ashfield Park School, Ross-on-Wye, embraced British Science Week, which ran from March 9th to 16th.
Once again pupils and staff were inspired to get involved in practical STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) activities, which the children learnt so much from.
Reception and Year 1 pupils and staff dressed as scientists to immerse themselves into the fun of the theme week on Monday, March 12th.
Year 4 pupils have been involved in understanding the forces that control the flight of paper aeroplanes, ready to construct larger gliders for the RAF schools competition ‘Flight to the line’, as part of the RAF centenary celebrations. Year 5 are one step ahead and are at the stage of constructing and modifying their cardboard gliders; one design will eventually represent the school in the regional final at Aerospace Bristol.
This brief glimpse shows the science, technology and engineering covered this week in Ashfield Park’s very creative approach to British Science Week, which inspired enthusiasm and curiosity in the week that one of Britain’s notable scientist, Sir Stephen Hawking, died.
