Many residents have commented on the flower beds close to the Crossfields car park, which are looking very sorry for themselves. But there is hope on the horizon as Ross and District U3A have applied for a grant to rejuvenate these beds with sustainable wild life friendly plants. If they are successful, planting will be done in the autumn.

In the meantime, two of the beds have been seeded with quick growing perenials and annuals. Flowers include Coreopsis, Perennial Flax, Marigold, Red Poppy and many more. They hope, in a few weeks, these will provide a carpet of flowers for the community and visitors to enjoy.

The group’s appreciation goes out to Paul and Di, who did the digging and the seeding, and the environmental matters group of the U3A who purchased the seed. They are also grateful to Ross Garden Store, who previously sprayed the beds with weedkiller.

Signs have also been put up to alert people to the beds that have been seeded.

Small actions do make a difference, so if you or your group would like to join in helping Ross go wild, in the prettiest possible way, contact the group via their U3A website: http://u3asites.org.uk/ross/home. If everyone plays a part, who knows how big this will grow.
