Madam, I was very interested to read Mervyn Tommey's letter of May 28th which recalled Ross Rowing Club members and their experiences of WW2. I remember all of the names from my school days and that my sister, Kathleen Phillips, was taken to a dance in that smart yellow sports car belonging to Cyril Babbage. My brother, Wilfrid Phillips, was a contemporary at Ross Rowing Club alongside those men whom Mervyn describes. Our parents were Harold and Harriet Phillips of H.E. Phillips (Jewellers), Gloucester Rd. Wilfrid was in No 1 Commando and served in North Africa. He was killed in Tunisia in 1942. My son visited the Medjez-el-Bab war memorial where Wilfrid (aged 22) and over 2,000 men are commemorated from that campaign. Barbara Sharpe (née Phillips), Herefordshire
