Residents at Ross Court Care Home were joined by the children from Wyetots Childminding Group recently for a visit from Wye Valley Falconry. The Care Home said it was an extra special day because it was also resident Eve’s wish to meet some birds of prey.

Luke, from Wye Valley Falconry, brought in six different birds for the home staff and residents to meet. One, a friendly white-faced owl called Trench, was happy to be held by the children and residents.

Luke brought a kestrel named Mario who also enjoyed meeting everyone. A spokesperson for Ross Court Care Home said: “Luke was very knowledgeable and told us all about Mario’s habitat and what he likes to hunt when he’s in the wild, we found it fascinating. We also met a barn owl, Florrie, who was very noisy. Luke explained that they used to be referred to as ‘screechy owls’ before their name was changed to the barn owl - we now understand why.

“We went on to meet Aztec the hawk, who was huge, and Luke explained how they hunted in pairs and like to feast on large rodents.

“Everyone really enjoyed the event and can’t wait for Luke to bring the birds back and fly them in the garden when the weather is a bit warmer.”

Magic Moments Club Coordinator, Clare Lockley, said: “Eve was so animated to have an owl on her hand. A magic moment indeed.”See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
