Aston Ingham enjoyed a successful bonfire night hosted this year, on Saturday, November 3rd, where hundreds of visitors and local residents enjoyed music, food, and fireworks.

Aston Ingham Cricket Club hosted a barbeque, and a bonfire was lit in Steven Gooch’s adjacent field. The Gooch family have always been a big part of the annual display. Some local residents, who help out every year, set off the fireworks.

The annual display began many years ago as a small family affair with donated fireworks and homemade soup. Kevin Pickett told the Ross Gazette: “I was 11 when I moved to Aston Ingham, so we’ve had the bonfire for at least 40 years. We used to get together every year, cut down trees and have soup and hotdogs.

“Then we started having fireworks donated to us. We had so many sometimes that we would be letting them off for hours.”

Despite the fact that the night has since grown into a much larger event for the whole of the community, the same local families are still at the heart of it.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
