The children at Ashfield Park Nursery School were very excited when their parents and grandparents were invited to come and join them while they play.
The staff at the Nursery wanted their carers and families to find out how they support the children at Nursery to develop the skills they need to become able and enthusiastic talkers, readers and writers.
The grown-ups joined in with their ‘squiggle while you wiggle’ session. This activity develops the children’s upper body movements and their co-ordination so that they are ready to learn to write.
The children have really enjoyed listening to the stories about Mrs Wishy Washy and staff members often hear them re-telling the stories as they look at the books or use the puppets. The children retold their favourite story for their parents with lots of actions, expression and enthusiasm.
Every term the children take home a rhyme book to share with their parents and they learn a rhyme each week so everyone was able to join in with the rhyme time at the end of the day.
The event finished with a fantastic bedtime story event with a warm drink, a biscuit and plenty of stories to enjoy.
