A staff lunch was held at the Man of Ross fruit farm canteen on Sunday 15th to celebrate 50 years of service by two workers Bob Bayliss and Brian Evans.Mr and Mrs Andrew Jackson organised the celebration fo the same day 50 years ago that Bob Bayliss from Sellack started work at the fruit farm at Upper Moraston. He soon moved to the new packhouse and later to the main packhouse and fruit
storage premises in Glewstone. He has been looking after these
fruit stores which supply the main supermarkets. He was amazed
when a shining Royal Enfield motorbike was ridden in to the
canteen ,and presented to him. He will no doubt enjoy his
retirement touring Herefordshire and polishing his bike.
'A second presentation was made to Brian Evans from Glewstone
who completed his 50 years last August. Brian has been driving
tractors in the fruit orchards, spraying the trees and trimming the
hedges. He is very proud that the hedges are the most carefully
looked after in Herefordshire. He was presented with a voucher to
stay at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport where he will be
playing golf on the course where the next Ryder Cup takes place.
Brian is not retiring and hoping to celebrate again for his 60 years
in work.
