Fireworks have long been used for celebration - and with the history of Ross on Wye Lions Club and their annual displays, what better way to celebrate 50 years than with a fantastic light display. For 50 years, there have been Lions in Ross - local men and women who volunteer their time and skills to make a difference in the community.
In the coming weeks and months, the Lions will be looking for ways to celebrate, based on a golden 50 theme. To start with a bang (literally) the year will begin with a fantastic firework display.
There will be a new location for those who want to watch - the car park at Wilton. Thanks to the Ross Cricket Club, the fireworks will be set off from their boundary and so the best and safest viewing area is in the car park where there will also be limited free parking. Of course, due to necessary covid precautions, we would remind you not to come if you feel you could be unwell and to remember the covid rules that apply at the time.
The event will open from 6pm and there will be stalls and vans selling hot food, drinks, and fun light sticks. Fireworks will begin at 7pm. Volunteer Stewards will be patrolling and First Aiders will be present to help to make it safe for all.
This celebration is free of charge so there is no admission ticket needed. Donations are always welcome, of course, and a few Lions will be there with collection buckets, smiles and thankyous.
This annual event, paused during the pandemic, is a tradition that Ross Lions continue to put together for the people of Ross-on-Wye and the town’s visitors to enjoy. As a charity organisation, requests can be made for support so anyone who knows of an individual or group that need help can make contact from the website www.rossonwyelions.org.
The website is also the place to find out more about Lions, what members do and how volunteers can help, as is the Ross Lions Facebook page. Anyone interested in possibly volunteering with the Ross Lions Club is welcome to contact us for a chat at any time. For more informtaion email or phone 0345 8335786.
