Several residents have become very angry at the amount of waste being left by the Herefordshire Council bin at Quarry Close. They are also concerned that the bin has not been emptied for some time.
A spokesman for Herefordshire Council told the Ross Gazette: “The last general rubbish collection day for Quarry Close was Thursday, April 20th and will next be collected on Thursday, May 4th.
“This area suffers from illegal waste dumping, and, unfortunately, the large bins can attract waste from less responsible people who dump excess rubbish instead of taking it to the nearby Household Recycling Centre. Unfortunately this means the residents of Quarry Close suffer as a result.”
The large black bins were originally supplied by Herefordshire Council to contain the black sacks filled by residents who did not have their own council bin.
Over the next couple of weeks, Herefordshire Council will provide residents with their own individual green and black bin. They will write to residents directly to inform them of the changes.
Some residents have already received this letter from the Waste and Recycling Officer. She reminds residents: “Please be aware that the amount and type of waste you present is limited to that contained in your council bin or four black sacks per fortnight or correct materials in council issued recycling bags. Any waste which is not presented in a bin or outside your own property will be treated as fly tipping.”
The spokesman added: “This will enable residents to take responsibility for their own waste and hopefully discourage the illegal dumping that the large big bins encourage.”
Illegal fly tipping can be reported directly through the Herefordshire Council website which can be found at www.herefordshire.gov.uk
