Luke Pavey, a former student at the John Kyrle High School, spent the best part of a year filming a Welsh-speaking farmer, showing all the trials and tribulations of life as a hill farmer in North Wales, and now he is in line for two British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in Wales.
Luke originally planned to study history after completing his A levels at JKHS, but at the last minute, changed to journalism at Cardiff. After he graduated he started work for BBC Wales as a researcher and assistant producer. He then began freelancing and worked on the observational documentary 'The Hill Farm' for BBC Wales.
Interestingly, Gareth Wyn Jones, the hill farmer who is the focus of the series, is a first language Welsh speaker. However, as Luke explained to the Gazette, as this was filmed for BBC Wales, not for S4C, it was decided to use a mixture of English and Welsh with some subtitles.
