Ross Garden Store understand how important a Christmas tree is to people and their families. If you are purchasing a real one this year they have provided the following advice on how to keep it looking healthy:
All Christmas trees are coming into your home from their natural environment, don’t forget to acclimatise your tree. Try not to take it from a very cold environment (outside) to a warm centrally heated house straight away.
Remove the netting and allow the branches to settle back to their natural position. For a cut tree, saw five cm off the base and place it in a water holding stand.
Cut Christmas trees are like cut flowers. To keep them fresh they need water. If you replenish the water daily, it is likely to remain fresh all through the festive period. Most importantly it will then not drop needles. If your tree is pot grown, stand in a waterproof container or a large saucer (to protect surfaces), always keep the soil moist. For both types leave in a cool dry place (outhouse or unheated conservatory) until you are ready to decorate it, they don’t like intense heat so do not put them against radiators.
