ANDY Bevan is a very busy man, whose daily schedule would exhaust many. He not only lives and works on his dairy farm but he also runs a Footballing Centre of Excellence from his Orcop farm.
Andy's day begins at 3.30 every morning when he has to milk 140 cows with an additional 160 young stock. Then there is the haulage business he operates from the farm with his brother.
Anyone would think that would be quite enough. But not for Andy. He is also a licensed FA Coach, running his own footballing centre of excellence within the surrounds of his farm - ABC Football.
Andy is boundless in his energy and passion for the project explaining to The Ross Gazette: "This is about putting fun into the community and creating positive role models, as well as developing footballing skills."
As a semi-professional football player Andy enjoyed a successful career in local football leagues, the West Midlands league and then the Welsh Leagues. In his subsequent career as a football coach he has coached teams in Denmark representing the UK and recently, despite a serious footballing injury, he got through three rounds of interviews with Manchester United, even standing next to the great Sir Alex Ferguson himself.
Though forced to stop playing through recurrent injuries, it wasn't a complete retirement from the sport. Keen to stay involved, he has carved a successful niche through coaching. He has now worked his way up to the full EUFA A Licence which he starts in August this year. He completed the previous levels 1 & 2 plus the EUFA B Licence in just 20 months and then took his 'A Licence Preparatory' course and successfully completed the number of points needed to take the requisite A Licence.
Along the way Andy has taken all the relevant first aid courses, Child Protection Certificate plus a Full CRB check. He is also currently taking his Psychology in Football exams.
While not part of any formal league, ABC Football hosts friendly matches. Each young footballer has a skill card ranging from 1-5, with certificates being awarded if passed. There are World Cup competitions weekly and the boys also work to a specific syllabus. Andy also coaches part time at the Jamie Shore Soccer International School (Jssi) based in Bristol and if any of Andy's boys show potential beyond that of local recognition they are then offered a four week trial at Jssi. So far four of his boys have gone to Bristol and been accepted and in fact one of them has even gone further with trials at both Championship and Premiership level. Coaching sessions are available individually or as a group.
Fun, respect, enjoyment, development, discipline, innovation and excellence are values Andy aims to instill in all the players. Ages range from five to 18 years and girls as well as boys are warmly greeted. An ambition to see a full-sized pitch on the present location may still be realised (all subject to planning).
