Michael Nixon, a Year 2 pupil at Walford School was the first recipient of one of the new Diamond Jubilee trophies from Lady Darnley the Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire.
Joyce Thomas, the Deputy Lieutenant and vice chair of the Governors, presented the cup to Michael at the Walford School Leavers Assembly on the last day of term.
Michael had been nominated for the Diamond Jubilee Cup because on his birthday he had asked his parents and friends not to give him presents. Instead he asked people to give donations to the Josh Freeman Wish to Walk appeal and he raised £300.
Headteacher Mrs George said that it was a wonderfully generous thing to do. Then a delighted Josh announced to the pupils, staff and parents that his fundraising target had been reached.
He was thrilled to share the news with his friends and those who have closely supported his fundraising efforts.
MEP Andrea Mcintyre presented maps of the European Union to all the leavers and another award was presented to The Inventor of the Year.
Frank Myers, Chair of the Parish Council, who invented the flat cone for use in roadworks, had donated a trophy and judged the competition.
The winner was Lucy Drew-White who had come up with the idea for using the base of a shoe as storage. Mrs George said it would be the perfect way to carry a lipstick if you did not want to take a handbag with you.
The third major award winner was Adam Middlecote who won the shield for the pupil who made the biggest contribution to school life during his time there. The shield was presented to the school by governor Dawn Boaden.
After the leavers had told their parents about their special school memories, which were both funny and touching, they went outside to release balloons and their wishes for the future into the sky.
