Eleanor Kercher told members of Ross-on-Wye Town Council, at their meeting on Monday, March 12th, that the Made in Ross artists are very grateful for their continuing support. They have seen a continuous increase in visitors and sales since they opened.

She told the Councillors that lighting is still an issue for the gallery space, which she hopes will soon be dealt with. The artists’ main concern is regarding the men drinking beer in the Market Place, which can make the entrance to the Market House unpleasant.

Councillor Richard Mayo asked if the group had considered joining the linked in radio scheme for Ross which would have instant access to the PCSO on duty.

Eleanor explained that due to the costs they had not joined the scheme but she would raise it again with members.

She said that Made in Ross is pleased that they are helping to keep the Market House open for locals and tourists to visit.

She added, “We always aim to have 14 full-time members as this gives a good variety of arts and crafts for visitors to see.”

She reported that sales are going well, on a continuous upwards path, but there are definite spikes at Christmas and during Herefordshire Art Week, hArt.

Eleanor said that footfall is also increasing, and this is partly due to the six guest exhibitions they hold each year. This gives space to local artists who don’t have time to be full-time members. Workshops are also very popular

She said that Made in Ross is linking up with artists from Conde sur Noireau in France, as part of the 40th anniversary of the twinning celebrations. From April 27th to May 2nd artists from the twin town will be exhibiting a selection of their work.

She said Made in Ross is also thinking about links with Betzdorf artists and artists from Namatumba.

She added that they are also keen to continue to provide tourist information from the Market House, and the artists will soon be attending a session about using the defibrillator which lives in the Market Place.
