ROSS-on-Wye Civic Society’s October meeting will be a talk on Goodrich Court presented by Chris Sullivan.
Goodrich Court was demolished in 1950, but its exotic gatehouse remains alongside the main A40 road at Pencraig, between Ross and Monmouth.
The extraordinary neo-gothic mock castle was home to a little-known, world-class art gallery and a celebrated collection of antiquities including the recently unearthed bust in Ross of James Barry, (1741-1806) created by Joseph Panzetta in 1818 that had once graced Goodrich Court.
The Ross-on-Wye Civic Society organise monthly talks about local topics, either historical or current. The next meeting is Wednesday, October 8 at 7.30 pm at the Larruperz Centre.
Meetings are generally held on the second Wednesday of the month.
A charge of £5 is made for a single meeting or free for members paying £25 for the year. Details of events for 2025 can be found on the website rosscivic.org.uk .
