The Prince’s Countryside Fund has awarded a grant to Gorsley Community Shop, which opened in September. The Fund has given out more than £300,000 of grants in its most recent round of funding.
The grant awarded to Gorsley will allow them to employ a part-time shop manager for its first two years, whilst the shop establishes its customer base.
Gorsley and the surrounding community lost its shop and post office in August 2017, signalling the first time that they had been without a shop for over 120 years.
Andrew Gardner from Gorsley Shop committee said: “We are so grateful to receive the grant from The Prince’s Countryside Fund as it has secured the immediate future of the Community Shop in the first two years of opening, giving it every potential to be a valuable rural enterprise and service to the local community for years to come.”
Claire Saunders, Director of The Prince’s Countryside Fund said: “We are pleased to be able to support such deserving and worthwhile projects as Gorsley with much needed funds, and we are grateful to all of supporters and corporate partners for their generous donations which allow us to continue with our vital work.”
