Madam, Through the pages of your newpaper, the members of the Ross-on-Wye Branch of The Royal British Legion would like to express their thanks to the very many local businesses who supported their recent Family Fun Day.
Having made the decision to ask only local businesses to donate prizes for their auction, the Branch was resigned to not having as many prizes, but far from it! Every local retailer in the town donated a prize, many of them expensive, quality items. This support made the auction a very attractive feature of the Fun Day and enabled us to raise more money than we might have done by going just to the large national companies based in the town.
We were given so many prizes that we are able to give a prize to every entrant in the auction and also have enough prizes to run it again at our next event, a tea party at Wilton Castle on 23 July. We still have lots of lovely prizes, including the stay at a Cotswold Hotel and the signed Hereford United match ball and shirt.
The Branch was also thrilled when so many people turned up to enjoy the Fun Day and delighted with the support given to us by the Riders' Branch, the Norton vintage motorcycle club, the "Companions of the Forest" re-enactment group, Ross Tempest cheerleaders, Broome Farm and Megabounce, all of whom helped make the day a huge success. We also need to thank Ross Lions and Ross Town Council for the financial support they gave to the day.
Finally we need to say a huge thank you to Multiprint who did our posters and flyers at top speed and lowest cost and of course the Ross Gazette and Wyenot news for advertising the event.
Money raised on the day will be going into the County Welfare Fund which the Legion in Herefordshire uses to fund the help and support it gives to members and ex-members of all three armed services.
Mrs. J. King JP
Secretary The Royal British Legion,
Ross-on-Wye
