The Ross-on-Wye Haygrove Community Garden is currently preparing for the forthcoming growing season and this year, staff and volunteers want to support even more people in our local community, particularly as green-care can make such a difference in people’s lives. With spring just around the corner, winter construction jobs of building raised beds is coming to an end and the seed sowing is well under way.

In March, a new fortnightly group for senior citizens will start on Tuesday mornings. Commencing on March 13th, The Green Fingers Gardening Club will run between 10am and 12noon.

Located in Old Gloucester Road, the garden supported 90 people with Dementia, learning disabilities and mental health illnesses last year. The garden was also judged ‘Outstanding’ by Britain in Bloom and won the Prince’s Countryside Fund Contribution to Communities Award.

Each week there will be lots of opportunity to get involved and grow things, with beds and benches to work at for those unable to stand or anyone using a wheelchair. The cost is £1.50 per session and includes a cup of tea or coffee.

Tim Shelley, Project Leader at the garden said, ‘this new club is perfect for anyone who is interested in gardening, but no longer has a garden, or anyone who would like to take part in some light physical activity or make some new friends’.

If anyone is interested in joining, or would like to help as a volunteer, then please contact Tim Shelley on 07972624378 or you can email: [email protected]
