Midwives welcomed the arrival of the first 2017 babies to be born at Hereford County Hospital.

The birth of the first baby, a boy born at 1.45am, was greeted by cheers in the early hours of Sunday, January 1st.

A spokesman for Wye Valley NHS Trust, said: “We’re delighted to welcome a total of eight babies – five girls and three boys - on the first day of 2017 and celebrate their arrival with the proud parents on this special day.

“Our mums will also receive support when they return home from our midwives and health visitors so that they feel empowered and continue to have a positive experience of motherhood.”
