Former members of the 5th Battalion The Light Infantry met up for a very enjoyable week mountaineering on the Isle of Skye. Bob Morris and Major Ladi Broadman from D Coy, which used to be based at Alton Road, Ross-on-Wye were joined by Major Mickey Baker, a former member of B Coy, Wellington, Shropshire.

En route to Skye, Ladi and Bob decided to take in an ascent of Ben Nevis as a warm up for the more arduous and risky climbs that lay ahead on the Black Cuillin mountains of Skye.

The gentlemen managed to ascend and descend in a respectable time of four hours 20 minutes.

Although age and bad weather prevented a complete traverse of the Cuillin Ridge, the boys still managed to achieve an ascent of the Inaccessible Pinnacle on their first day and nine other peaks over the following three days.

Colonel Bob Purvis, the founder and Chairman of The Light Infantry and Rifles Association in Ross-on-Wye congratulated his three colleagues on their achievement.

He said that these type of challenges were the sort that all members of the Association would be invited to undertake.
