Many people visited Hereford Cathedral earlier this year to see the Poppies: Weeping Window, part of the installation ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ by the artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper. This was a recreation of part of an inspiring installation around the Tower of London in 2014.

Ross residents are planning to create their own installation of poppies in St Mary’s Church in November to mark the commemoration of the end of the Great War in 1918. The poppies, however, will not be ceramic but knitted, crocheted, felted or made from paper.

The organisers will need over 300 and would like to invite members of the public to make a poppy. Patterns are available from the church office.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now
