Herefordshire females are encouraged to try something new and get active as the ‘Here Girls Can’ campaign returns. Running from 11-17th March, the campaign brings ‘This Girl Can’ to a local level and is designed to get women and girls moving, regardless of shape, size or ability.

Helping to champion the campaign and spread the message across Herefordshire are the three Here Girls Can Lead Schools: St Mary’s RC High School, Fairfield High School and Aylestone School. As PE and sport are revolutionised, students will have the opportunity to take part in non-traditional sports including, Clubbercise, Boxercise, Zumba, Beatz, Self-defence, GlowBeatz or Yoga.

According to the Chief Medical Officer, only 17.5 % of children/young people meet the activity levels. Research suggests that only 41 % of girls aged 12-14 feel happy during exercise and 28% do not exercise outside of their PE lessons. The ‘Here Girls Can’ campaign aims to challenge female’s perception of sport and physical activity, in-turn beginning to break down some of the barriers to physical activity and sport. Of course, the campaign is not limited to school sport.

The Sports Partnership Herefordshire and Worcestershire is encouraging females across the county to unleash their inner beginners with the Peach Pass scheme. Free to download, the ‘Peach Pass’ enables women and girls to access a free sport or physical activity session in the local community between 11-17th March

This year, Sports Partnership Herefordshire &Worcestershire has teamed up with leisure providers, sport clubs and community organisations to collectively begin to break down the barriers to sport and physical activity that so many women and girls experience.See this week’s paper for more stories like this, available in shops and as a Digital Edition now.
