Roadworks in Hereford will be put on hold while the city prepares to welcome thousands of visitors to events at the Cathedral this spring.
Herefordshire Council has paused the £8m ‘Challenge Fund’ road programme, made possible by funding from the Department for Transport (DfT). This has given the Council the opportunity to reschedule further works so they do not clash with significant events taking place in Hereford. Councillor Barry Durkin, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Road, Transport and Regulatory Services, said: “Thousands of visitors will be welcomed to Hereford over the next few months from across and outside the county. We expect to welcome around 2,000 visitors a day to the cathedral to see the Poppies: Weeping Window installation and then visit the wider county during March and April. This will bring a significant boost to the economy of Herefordshire as visitors find places to shop, eat and stay.”
