Health Uncovered podcasts created by young people for young people has been recognised at a national awards ceremony for the UK’s audio and radio industry
A series of free health podcasts, which featured four young people from Herefordshire, has been awarded silver in the ’Best Podcast’ category at the national Arias awards for the UK’s audio and radio industry.
The ‘Health Uncovered’ podcasts, hosted by TV and radio personality Cel Spellman, feature young people talking about a range of different topics from sexual health, bullying and grooming to substance misuse, mental health and the pressure of social media.
The nomination for the national award saw the team competing with the likes of celebrity Radio Presenter, Fearne Cotton and four other well-known broadcasters from across the UK, at a prestigious ceremony held in Leeds. The team were narrowly pipped to the post by ‘Griefcast’ hosted by Cariad Lloyd.
Since the health podcasts were released in November 2017, they have proved to be a huge hit with the public, resulting in over 17,000 downloads.
Councillor Elissa Swinglehurst, Cabinet Member for Children and Families said: “The award is a fantastic achievement and is recognition of how articulate the young people involved were when they were talking about health issues. Well done to everyone involved.”
