Motorists are advised that they may be stopped to take a Roadside Interview Survey, during the next couple of weeks.
Herefordshire Council have commissioned an outside body, consultants WSP PB and Tracsis PLC, to undertake a number of these Roadside Interview Surveys (RSIs) and Car Park Surveys throughout June and July.
These surveys are part of a wider package of transport surveys, undertaken during 2016, to collect data regarding all modes of transport. This information will be used to ensure the Council’s transport model for the city remains up to date and capable of supporting the development and assessment of transport projects and developments across the city.
The aim of the RSI and Car Park surveys is to collect data regarding the origin and destination of trips which route to, from and through Hereford at different times of the day.
The Council are also interested to collect data regarding the purpose of these trips, the types of vehicles being used, the times of any return journeys and the vehicle occupancy at the time of the survey. The information collected through the RSI and Car Park surveys will be used as data for input into the existing Hereford transport model.
The surveys will be undertaken in conjunction with West Mercia Police, as it will require motorists to be stopped for interview.
A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council said: "We appreciate that this could cause some concern for motorists. The survey’s accuracy will be dependent on motorists maintaining the same patterns of behaviour for the duration of the exercise, so we will not be issuing detailed information about survey locations before surveys commence. The surveys will be conducted for two days a week at various city locations for a period of four weeks."
